Runeasi closes a new €1 million investment to accelerate global expansion of its AI powered running platform

By Kurt Schütte (CEO) & Tim Op De Beéck (CTO)

Leuven, Belgium—23 Jan 2025— Runeasi, a KU Leuven spin‑off building the future of movement analysis and physiotherapy, has raised €1 million in a new funding round to accelerate its international expansion.

The round was led by Smarter Ventures, a next-generation Dutch venture capital fund, with continued support from existing investors Freshmen Fund, Gemma Frisius Fund, the company’s founders, and participation from Silicon-Valley–based angel investor Sean Gourley.

Bringing lab‑grade running and jumping assessments to everyone

Runeasi enables physiotherapists, coaches, and running shoe retailers to deliver lab-grade running and jumping assessments anywhere. Powered by accurate, wearable AI technology, the platform produces instant, individualized reports that convert biomechanical data into actionable training and rehabilitation insights. Personalized exercise programs help athletes build muscular capacity and increase resilience to injury.

Investors highlight Runeasi’s scientific depth, practical AI and potential

“Runeasi is building exactly the kind of software we like to invest in: a strong combination of deep domain knowledge, proprietary data, and innovative AI. Their product is intuitive to use and essential for customers. This fits perfectly with our belief that the most successful AI companies create a flywheel for sustainable growth and innovation.”— Anton Loeffen, Managing Partner, Smarter Ventures

“As an experienced runner, I was immediately impressed by the product. As an investor, it was the strength of the team that truly made the difference. The founders have a sharp understanding of their customers, make thoughtful product choices, and are eager to learn and improve every day.”— Kristian de Lange, Managing Partner, Smarter Ventures

“Runeasi is active in a booming market with a relevant unique and simple solution to ensure people run better and wiser. We are happy to continue investing as Kurt and his team have proven they can create international traction and credibility with global leaders”— Steven Spittaels, Managing Partner, Freshmen Fund

Global adoption and fueling the next phase of growth

“I’m proud of what our team has accomplished and the traction achieved so far. Runeasi is being adopted globally by leading sports physiotherapy clinics and running specialists in 40+ countries, with more than 50,000+ runner assessments conducted. Runeasi is also empowering major sports footwear brands to deliver a quick, hands on way for runners to experience their products and reinforce their product relevance.

We are grateful for the continued support from both new and existing investors. The capital will help us accelerate our next phase of growth and expand internationally, particularly in the United States, which is now our fastest‑growing market.

While we recently joined the ranks of Belgium’s fastest-growing AI scale-ups, we remain committed to our core values of scientific integrity and validation that are so fundamental to health technology.” — Kurt Schütte, CEO of Runeasi
